Excellent writing instruction for underserved kids.

We bring the best in craft to the kids who need it most.

Our approach is a little unusual: We work with existing nonprofits in northern New England, bringing published authors to high-poverty rural and urban schools.

Meet our partners.

We supply the authors and the lessons.

Our in-school residencies (available for grades K-12) offer children an opportunity to explore their own stories through engaging, authentic activities that increase their confidence, motivation, and skill as writers. Our visiting writers invite students into the world of writing with the same techniques that professional authors use, including sketching, imagining, talking, and accessing ideas through play. We want students to see that writing can be personally meaningful and fun!

Authors typically work with students over 3-5 sessions as they develop their own stories. They support up to four classrooms per residency and may host additional presentations for the larger school community. We see these visits as an opportunity to deepen students’ investment in writing and tailor our workshops to support the ongoing curriculum.

Our programs are (virtually) free.

We believe all kids deserve access to great writing programs, so we cover most of the cost of a residency through grants and donations. We ask schools to contribute a modest fee to ensure mutual commitment. We also secure donation of at least one classroom set of books for each school.
